A Landover man accused of killing a Mitchellville music producer in 2006 broke his silence by taking the stand Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jamaal Alexis, who is on trial, is accused of towing Raymond Brown’s Chrysler 300 sedan from Brown’s Mitchellville home Oct. 13, 2006, then fatally shooting Brown, 36, as he approached the tow truck.

Brown was a well-known music producer, known as “Scottie Beats” in the music industry.

Alexis, 24, of Landover told Elizabeth Cawood of The Law Offices of Thomas and Cawood in Bowie, one of two attorneys representing Alexis in the case, on Wednesday that he did not kill Brown and he was not present that night.

“I did not, I was not,” Alexis said Wednesday in the Upper Marlboro courtroom of Prince George’s County Circuit Court Judge C. Philip Nichols Jr.

Alexis also said “I did not” conspire with his brother, Rashadd Alexis, 22, of Landover to kill witnesses to Brown’s death.
