After not placing in his eighth-grade science fair, Tony Hansberry was determined to do better the following year. He got an idea from an administrator at Shands Hospital — where he’d interned — and in the ninth grade created a procedure that he presented to surgeons at a medical conference. Now a junior at a Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School of the Medical Arts, Hansberry said about his future, “I was looking at neurosurgery, but I’m keeping my options open. I know I want to be a physician, not just a surgeon.”
