About the Film
Jazz in the Diamond District chronicles the summer of one Washington, D.C., native, Jasmine “Jazz” Morgan, who joins a Go-go band in hopes of becoming a singing sensation. This rhythmic journey through the nation’s capital was shot entirely on-location in Washington, D.C. and highlights the rarely-seen residential neighborhoods of the city and the volatile energy of Go-go music and the D.C. underground hip-hop scene. The film stars Wood Harris (HBO’s “The Wire,” PAID IN FULL, NEXT DAY AIR) and D.C.’s own, Clifton Powell (RAY, DEAD PRESIDENTS, NEXT FRIDAY), and will introduce native Washingtonians, Monique Cameron, Erica Chamblee, and Andre’ Strong. The film was co-edited by Daniel Rezende (nominated for an Academy Award in 2004 for his work as the editor of the highly-acclaimed Brazilian film, City of God (2002)) and features an original score composed by D.C.’s own super -producer, Chucky Thompson (known for his work as a producer for artists such as Notorious B.I.G, Nas, Mary J. Blige, and native Washingtonian, Chuck Brown).
