Based on Your Relationship Statuses, Facebook Can Now Determine When You’ll Break Up

I’m an internet maniac with a case of the Facebook fever (especially even more after just seeing The Social Network).  So, naturally, this story grabbed my attention.

If you think about it, based on how much more plugged in Facebook is than any other social medium, it really is probably the world’s best shot at figuring out when most people jump ship. And, so, the world—or, rather, David McCandless—used it to do just that.

The journalist and graphic designer, who specializes in showcasing data in visual ways, scraped 10,000 status updates for the words “break up” or “broken up” to reveal that spring (it is sort of awakening) and pre-Christmas (really—just to save a couple bucks?) as the most treacherous, while Christmas Day remains the safest day for relationship success.
