The convicted killer of music producer Raymond “Scotty Beats” Brown was sentenced to 140 years in prison Tuesday, NBC Washington’s Pat Collins reported.

Jamaal Alexis, 24, of Landover, Md., was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Brown and other charges related to the murders of Bobby Ennels and Anthony Cash and the attempted murder of Frances Lammonse, authorities said.

On Oct. 13, 2006, Brown was shot and killed trying to prevent the theft of his vehicle, which was being towed away so the thieves could take Brown’s rims, authorities said. Almost two years later, Jamaal Alexis’s brother, Rashaad Alexis, at the behest of Jamaal Alexis, allegedly killed a witness in the Brown murder case.

“It broke me. There would be months at a time when I wouldn’t even come out of the house,” Raymond Brown‘s widow, Danielle Brown, said about his death. “I would sleep all weekend. I would cry. I would wake up, have nightmares. It was unbelievable to me that somebody would take a life over a set of wheels and not give a second thought to it.”
