I equate listening to this album with watching a movie where the entire story line takes you further into a journey as each track plays. A unique feel as if I’m riding through the city of DC… into different decades and time periods. That’s the vibe I’m getting. Each track reminding me of a different era within that city. Its rhythms and patterns (something that has always been heartbeat and pulse of DC’s urban culture for as long as I can remember) all setting the landscape of each story being told. From the summers in Anacostia Park (“Dreaming”) to the drum circles in Malcolm X Park (“You Need Luvin”) to the Showmobiles in River Terrace (“Born Again”). Some tracks being laced with assorted styles and flavors of music taste, to include some metal and reggae, yet that DC pulse still beats throughout each song. My personal favorite being “The Legend of Petey”, simply because the whole vibe of it reminds me of riding down H Street NE during 70s, while listening to the WOL station through my dad’s car radio. It took me directly to that moment.
But hey… don’t just take my word for it, check out a video clip of one of the tracks for yourself below. And while you’re at it, head on over and grab a copy of the CD.
