I believe that none of us fully knows how many lives we touch in everyday seemingly insignificant ways. And how many people are better off as a result of knowing us. Think of the small, random acts of kindness. Think of a compliment that you gave to a stranger or a word of encouragement you gave to someone on the job. Think of a friend or family member you helped out in a pinch or a neighbor or coworker you sent a card or email to just because.

Sometimes when life gets a little hard and we’re in the midst of our own personal struggles, it’s easy to believe that we are not making a difference. And if we don’t see any tangible payoffs from our efforts it’s even easier to believe that we don’t matter. BUT WE DO. This is why it is so important that we remind ourselves that we matter to others and we add value to the lives that we touch in everyday, ordinary ways. From the clerk in the post office to the check-out girl in the supermarket to the friends, associates and family members in your social network, you are making a difference everyday… just by being you. So don’t stop doing what you do. Your smile, your head nod, your good morning, your please and thank you, your what’s good in the hood, may be the only personal acknowledgement that another person receives for the day. These seemingly insignificant acts are what building community and being your neighbor’s keeper are all about.

See the thing of it is, all the time, without ever knowing it you contribute to the lives of others through your unique personality and the conscious acknowledgement of those around you. Today, think of all the simple ways that you enrich the lives of others and know that in a fast-paced, super-sized instant gratification world…You matter.

I thoroughly dig The Notorious B.I.G. He is clearly one of the best to ever touch the mic. He’s a story teller, an icon. What other rappers struggle to do came easy to BIG. It’s been 12 years since Biggie was ripped away from us. While Hip- Hop is the hottest genre of music today, Big’s absence has forever bent its structure. I caught up with George Tillman Jr. the other day. We chatted a bit about his experience directing the film NOTORIOUS and his thoughts on Christopher Wallace, the man, the rapper.

LBE: First of all thank you so much for calling. I know that you’re crazy busy promoting the film. So I truly appreciate you taking the time to speak with me. I have a few questions. First of all I want to tell you that I LOVE BIG!

GT: No problem. No problem.

LBE: Biggie’s death is still a hot topic, still an open investigation. How difficult was it gathering information about the film?

Next week, two things long thought impossible will occur: the country will prepare for the swearing in of its first black president and the original members of the go-go fusion band Lissen will reunite. The band plays together as one big happy group on Sunday at Mirrors.

The woes of Lissen (also known as L!ssen) have been covered extensively by both City Paper and the go-go bible TMOTT, but here’s a brief history of the conflict: In 2004, band members Scooby, Tuffy and O (also known as Frank Marshall, Andre Jackson and Jasen Holland, respectively) split from the group to start a new band and attempted to trademark the name Lissen. Group member Michael Thompson (who claimed he came up with the name back when he, Marshall, Jackson, and Holland were in high school), filed with the federal Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to oppose the effort.

Now that we are in our “New Beginnings”, I will continue to keep you encouraged. Each day we take small steps towards our destiny. With each step we take we face a challenge and/or achieve success. Today we all operate with a clean mind and open heart. We asked the Lord to lead us into his VICTORY, and it’s not as easy and less challenging as some of us thought. Some of you may not see change, but CHANGE does not appear to us until we have believed that we have received it.

Some of us are still facing the same opposition today, that we faced in 2008. This is simply because nothing just happens. We allowed those closed doors in are lives to reopen. Last week we prayed a prayer to get us through to our “New Beginnings”, each day we have to take actual steps in a different direction to allow ourselves to be done with our past. For some of us it is easy and for some of us it’s hard to bare. So today I want us to come together and to continue to pray for change in our lives that will lead us on to our VICTORY!

Lord we come to you today in unity; we ask that we receive discernment of all things according to our lives and where you would have us to be this day. Lord we ask that you increase our Faith and lead us down your path of righteousness. Lord at times we feel that fight is not over and at times we want to give in, Lord we ask that you give us the strength to win each battle and the strength to never give in. Lord you called us blessed and are created in your image and likeness. Lord teach us how to be the living word. Lord each day continue to draw us near you through relationship. Lord place people in our lives that will encourage us each step of the way. Lord send us angels that will help us develop our spirits in order to better ourselves and be a blessing unto another. Lord with each step we take, allow our eyes to be open wide and experience life’s test and be a living testimony. Lord we thank you for who you are and praise your name.

Today I encourage you all to CHALLENGE yourself in the area where you have doubt. I challenge you to forgive someone, love someone, teach someone, help someone and to be who God has called you to be. If you are unsure of who God has called you to be, through prayer the answer will be revealed. We all know on the inside what our one true goal or desire is…IT”S TIME TO BRING IT TO LIFE!
