No surprise there.
Congratulations are in order for Ice Cube, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and the entire “22 Jump Street” cast. The film topped this past weekend’s box office taking in about $60 Million. “All the stars were aligned for us,” Rory Bruer, Sony Pictures president of worldwide distribution told Variety. “We had great reviews, great stars, audiences loved it and Lord and Miller know funny and executed beautifully.”
The film also broke some box office records. Its opening is the second biggest for an R-rated comedy in history after “The Hangover Part II” ($85.9 million) and ahead of the first “Sex and the City” ($57 million).
“How to Train Your Dragon 2? took in about $50 million. “Maleficent,” placed in third, Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow” placed in fourth domestically, and “Fault In Our Stars” rounded out the top five. “Edge Of Tomorrow” was number one globally last week taking in Takes in $111.1 Million.
This is another great achievement for our April/May Cover star Ice Cube whose film “Ride Along,” was a big success!
